Full Plate 7: The Gauntlet pt 1

In the New Dark Ages, a gauntlet must be thrown down for the worthy to accept.

In a time when "belief" is untested, and simply refers to a story you tell about yourself, how many of you are willing to take a challenge and rise to the occasion?

If we say we are men of a different kind than the mob, if we claim to be something more noble, if we profess to believe in a higher way - all these words and claims are dust and ashes unless our lives are visibly in stark contrast to the lives of normal men.

Those who merely pay lip service to an ideal, while living in a fashion identical to that of those who serve the Dragon, the Bull, or the Scarlet Woman are traitors. They speak one way and act another. This is not in line with the kind of brutal chivalry we are suggesting.

Brutal is defined in these times as "punishingly hard or uncomfortable."

"Direct, and lacking any attempt to disguise unpleasantness."

"Harsh, severe."

The original Roman name "Brutus" meant someone "heavy" or "masculine."

Truth is often ugly and harsh.

A life lived without compromise can often be hard, uncomfortable and direct.

Without hardship, without trials and pressure, a man cannot become something more than he is now - and those who flinch in the face of severity or discipline are not worthy of being counted among our new ranks.

These days are full of paper warriors, toy soldiers.

Who among you would be a real one, and pick up the Gauntlet, accepting discomfort and a life of dedication to Right Action?

We need look no further than the righteous orders of the past to inform our new one - many of these truths are eternal, and the knights of old may ride once again if we utilize their guidance and bring it forward through mists of the past into the neon fog of our age.

If you are someone who counts themselves a man of worth, or an individual who would become one, then continue with us as we prepare ourselves for the Grand Campaign.

Each man must serve the Table, before he can sit at it.

It is high time a New Table was assembled.

The Dragon, the Bull, and the Scarlet Woman who rule the New Dark Ages must be combated by a faith militant.

Dissent isn’t enough - to merely be a malcontent without a solution is to fall prey to the same victimized spirit of the age that plagues most men.

To shriek impotently, like a worm blindly digging at a bed iron.

We must look to the past only to inspire us toward the future.

Bernard of Clairvaux wrote, of the Knights Templar:

This is, I say, a new kind of knighthood and one unknown to the ages gone by.

It ceaselessly wages a twofold war both against flesh and blood and against a spiritual army of evil in the heavens.

When someone strongly resists a foe in the flesh, relying solely on the strength of the flesh, I would hardly remark it, since this is common enough.

And when war is waged by spiritual strength against vices or demons, this, too, is nothing remarkable, praiseworthy as it is, for the world is full of monks.

But when one sees a man powerfully girding himself with both swords and nobly marking his belt, who would not consider it worthy of all wonder, the more so since it has been hitherto unknown?

He is truly a fearless knight and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith just as his body is protected by armor of steel.

He is thus doubly armed and need fear neither demons nor men.

Not that he fears death--no, he desires it…"

Inspiring words.

Our vision, however, must remain clearly and steadfastly fixed forward. What worked for the men of the past may not work for our current front of battle, but their spirit must be preserved within us.

The final emblems on our heraldry are the sword on the left, and the lance on the right.

They are representative of this militant culture we will create, this order of strength and loyalty that does not simply endlessly debate, or reason, or expound on idea after idea…

But to be men of action.

The sword marks our dedication to training our physical bodies for strength and combat, while the lance speaks of straightness, uprightness, and the spearhead of truth that goes before us.

Words are just that- but where words are upheld by righteous deed, this is where The Grand Campaign lies.

These, then, are all the symbols that make up our physical banner, the heraldry of this new order.

A gauntlet thrown down.

We were not meant to live the life of normal men- but to become the stuff of future memory.

Not to grind out our existence in service to the Dragon, the Bull, or the Scarlet Woman, trading in our hours for a flickering screen, a handful of dust, a momentary pleasure.

To say "someday" or "if only," but knowing inside that "someday" will never come, and "if only" will be "never was."

We were meant to shake the earth with our passing.

To place our golden deeds into the vault of time and remembrance, becoming immortal heroes who stood for Truth and Glory.

Men, you must put off the sickness of inaction and set yourself onto the only path with any meaning at all:

The Eternal and Endless Campaign for the Holy Grail.

But what is the Grail?

Its legend has called to men for time immemorial, long before the star was seen in the desert, or a prophet was put to death in a place called "Skull."

Before it was said to have fallen as a stone from Lucifer’s crown, its fame was known to certain peoples and places - a wondrous cup, or stone that could give life, power, renown.

The quest of kings who ruled over the land and were connected to the land itself…

We know what it is, and we know how to find it:

The Grail is the Quest itself, and its fulfillment - it is The Grand Campaign for Meaning and Spirit.

To be called to join this Campaign is a great cry within the blood that speaks to some, and with a mighty voice shouts to us: "Go forth!"

We who were not meant to live these small and desperate lives, but to strive endlessly for shining glory, and honor bright.

Our meaning comes from the hunt for meaning and the dedication we give to our ideal...each action of Loyalty, or Virtue, or Nobility shown on the path of our cause is a drop of blood in the grail, filling its depth with power and invincibility.

To be a bearer of this Holy Cup, to seek renown and righteousness in this endeavor, to be a hero marching in this Grand Campaign:

This is what it means to live forever.

Sword and Lance, and a call to arms.
